With prices of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee making both the SUVs a really expensive proposition for many, the 2017 Jeep Compass, which is likely to launch in India in August, 2017, looks all set to change the scenario. Recent reports suggest that Jeep has moved up the launch date of the car in India and it will be here on July 31, 2017. Reports cite the positive response to the Compass by prospective buyers behind this move. Local manufacturing of Compass is already underway in India and the upcoming Jeep SUV is likely to have a starting price of Rs 20 Lakh (ex-showroom). 2017 Jeep Compass India Launch Date

Jeep will launch the Compass in India in the month of August. However, recent reports suggest the SUV may be launched in India on July 31, 2017. The car can be booked online or at a Fiat/Jeep showroom in India for an amount of ₹ 50,000. FCA officially unveiled the Jeep Compass SUV in India on April 12, 2017. Upon launch, it will be the most inexpensive Jeep on sale in India yet.

The upcoming Jeep Compass will be available in both petrol and diesel variants with two wheel drive and four wheel drive options. Thanks to heavy localisation, the Jeep Compass could have a starting price of around ₹ 20 lakh. Top-end diesel 4×4 variants could cost almost ₹ 25 lakh. Jeep recently launched the Compass in the US. Prices start at $ 20,995 (Rs. 14,03,621). Like its other products currently on sale in India, Jeep might price the Compass slightly above its major rivals such as the Hyundai Tucson.

Diesel variants of the Jeep Compass will receive a 2.0 L Multijet II unit. Power and torque output will be around 170 HP and 350 Nm respectively. As for the petrol variants, a 1.4 L Turbocharged engine will power the SUV. However, in international markets, there is a 2.4 L Petrol that powers the Jeep Compass. We will have confirmation regarding its engine lineup as we near the launch date. There will be no diesel automatic variant on offer.

2017 Jeep Compass India Review – Exterior Design
The styling of the Jeep Compass borrows heavily from its elder sibling, the Grand Cherokee. It gets Jeep’s signature 7 slat grille. The headlamps feature LED DRLs and projector units, at least on the top end trims. The side profile of the Jeep Compass is characterised by squared off wheel arches and a thick C-pillar. There is a chrome strip that runs along the window line and wraps around the rear windshield.
At the back, there are split LED tail lamps along with a dual tone bumper and a skid plate. The top end Limited variant of the Jeep Compass could feature a blacked out roof, roof rails and rear roof spoiler. Jeep SUVs are known for the off road capabilities and the Jeep Compass certainly looks the part.
2017 Jeep Compass India Review – Interior Design
Much like the exterior, the interior of the Jeep Compass borrow heavily from existing Jeep models. The steering wheel is quite similar to the Renegade while the centre console bears some resemblance to the Grand Cherokee’s. Top end variants will feature a touchscreen infotainment system. The Jeep Compass offers seating for five occupants. The cabin of the Jeep Compass comes finished in a combination of light and dark materials.
The fit and finish and the quality of materials is top notch. Even the features list is long enough, at least for the top-end models.
