Hyundai has given the Xcent a new 1.2 L diesel engine. This is the same unit that made its debut on the 2017 Grand i10. In terms of power and torque, it falls behind the Aspire’s 1.5 L unit. Petrol variants are more evenly matched in terms of specifications. Ford also offers the Aspire with a 1.5 L petrol with a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

The new Xcent witnesses a marginal increase in fuel efficiency. However, according to ARAI figures, the Aspire diesel is still marginally more fuel efficient.

Top end variant of the Xcent comes loaded with features. Hyundai has added a 7 inch touchscreen to the Xcent’s list of features. In comparison, the Aspire does not get bits like a touchscreen AVN, LED DRLs. However, it does score higher in terms of safety as the top end Titanium Plus trims gets 6-airbags.

2017 Hyundai Xcent vs Ford Aspire Design Comparison
The Xcent facelift sports a new nose with the new ‘cascading’ type front grille. There are also new front and rear bumpers on offer. The front fog lamp enclosures also get LED daytime running lamps. At the back, Hyundai has made significant changes. The new Xcent features a restyled tail with new tail lights. We think the Ford Aspire is one of the better looking compact sedans on sale in India right now. The nose is quite easily one of the most attractive bits of the Aspire.
Inside, the Xcent does not get any major changes. The most notable addition in terms of features is a new 7-inch touchscreen. It continues with the black beige interior combo. The Aspire also gets a black-beige combo. However, Ford does not offer the Aspire with a touchscreen AVN. Titanium trims of the Aspire get a phone dock placed above the centre console. While Hyundai has also added a phone dock to the Xcent’s dash, it is reserved only for the petrol automatic variant.

The Aspire is slightly wider and taller and boasts a longer wheelbase. Xcent offers more space for luggage.

2017 Hyundai Xcent vs Ford Aspire Comparison – Verdict
The Xcent was already a very competent product and the updates have certainly made it much better. The Aspire is strong in multiple areas such as ride and handling, design, performance from the diesel. While the top end trims of the Aspire are cheaper, they offer lesser features as well.
- Price – The Xcent’s base variants are cheaper, but the top end trims cost more than the Aspire.
- Specifications – Xcent gets a new 1.2 L diesel engine. However, it is still no match for the Aspire’s brilliant 1.5 L diesel. Both compact sedans are powered by 1.2 L petrol engines. Additionally, the Aspire also comes with a 1.5 L petrol with a 6-speed DCT.
- Features – Hyundai Xcent is more feature rich than the Ford Aspire. However, the Aspire does score higher in terms of safety.
- Design – Hyundai Xcent gets major changes to its exterior making it look a bit more upmarket. Aspire is one of the best looking compact sedans on sale right now.
