The new look Hyundai Verna 2017 has finally made it to the Indian car market. The launch of the Verna took place at an official event in New Delhi on Aug-22, 2017. Prices of the new car start at roughly Rs 8 lakh. The new Verna is a completely new model, both inside and out, which means it comes across as a fairly more attractive option than the last-generation car. That said, it won’t be all that easy to conquer the segment. The new Verna will face heat from the likes of Honda City and the Maruti Ciaz, both of which have been doing fairly well in the segment. Other than this, the new 2017 Verna will also rival two really well-sorted cars- the Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. Here, in this post, we have decided to compare 2017 Hyundai Verna vs Skoda Rapid vs VW Vento.

True, both the Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento haven’t been doing too well on the sales charts. However, both of them are sufficiently competent cars that have their own sets of followers. Both the Rapid and the Vento come from the Volkswagen Group and hence, share a fair bit of components. Both these cars have a fairly modern design with clean surfaces and neat lines. In comparison, the Verna looks a lot more flamboyant. It also offers many more features and the most powerful engines in its class. But the two VW group cars here still have a lot going for them. Let’s compare the three cars here to find out what exactly sets each car apart.

2017 Hyundai Verna vs Skoda Rapid vs VW Vento – Price Comparison
Models | Minimum Price | Maximum Price |
New 2017 Hyundai Verna | ₹ 8.00 lakh | ₹ 12.61 lakh |
Skoda Rapid | ₹ 8.20 lakh | ₹ 13.58 lakh |
Volkswagen Vento | ₹ 8.05 lakh | ₹ 13.64 lakh |
*All prices ex-showroom Delhi
Well, the new Verna has gone on sale at an introductory price range of roughly Rs 8.00 lakh to Rs 12.61 lakh. In comparison, the entry-level models of the Rapid and the Vento are slightly pricier. The top-end models of both the cars, however, are considerably more expensive. This could do with the fact that both the top-end Diesel cars get a DSG gearbox, which is why the cars are priced much higher than their manual counterparts. In comparison, the top-end Verna Diesel automatic gets a conventional torque-converter unit and hence, is significantly cheaper. In terms of price comparison alone, the Verna wins this round.

Another aspect where the Verna clearly triumphs over the two VW Group cars here is the engine specs. While both the Rapid and the Vento offer fairly powerful petrol and Diesel engines, the new Verna simply puts everyone to shame with its best-in-class power and torque outputs. The new Verna is available with one petrol and one Diesel engine options- 1.6-litre Petrol and 1.6-litre turbo Diesel. Both these are available with 6-speed Manual and Automatic transmissions.
In comparison, both the VW group cars here also offer automatic transmissions on both the engine variants. However, the Diesel engines of the two cars, along with the 1.2-litre Petrol engine of the Vento, get a 7-speed DSG. This is one area where the Verna lags a bit, as it offers a conventional 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. But at least in terms of power and torque outputs, the Verna enjoys a clear lead over the Rapid and the Vento.
2017 Hyundai Verna vs Skoda Rapid vs VW Vento – Mileage Comparison
Model | Hyundai Verna 2017 | Skoda Rapid | Volkswagen Vento |
Petrol Mileage | 15.92 – 17.70 KMPL | 14.84 – 15.41 KMPL | 16.09-18.19 KMPL |
Diesel Mileage | 21.02 – 24.75 KMPL | 21.13 – 21.72 KMPL | 22.15 – 22.27 KMPL |
Talking solely in terms of mileage, there’s really little difference between the mileage figures of these cars. One needs to note that the Verna 2017 offers similar mileage figures in spite of having more power. Also, the German cars, in spite of having a 7-speed DSG and lower power output, don’t offer a significantly better mileage than the Verna Diesel. So, this is yet another area where the Verna excels.
2017 Hyundai Verna vs Skoda Rapid vs VW Vento – Dimensions Comparison
Dimensions | New 2017 Hyundai Verna | Skoda Rapid | Volkswagen Vento |

Width (mm) | 1,729 mm | 1699 mm | 1699 mm |
Height (mm) | 1,450 mm | 1466 mm | 1467 mm |
Wheelbase (mm) | 2,580 mm | 2552 mm | 2553 mm |
While the Vento is slightly longer than the new Verna 2017, the latest Korean C-segment sedan is larger than the other two cars here in most aspects. The most important bit is that the new 2017 Verna has a much longer wheelbase than both the Rapid and the Vento.
2017 Hyundai Verna vs Skoda Rapid vs VW Vento – Features Comparison
Both the Rapid and the Vento offer a considerably long list of features. However, Hyundai has been known to launch every new car with segment-best features and the new 2017 Hyundai Verna should be no different in this aspect. While all the three cars are closely matched in many aspects, the Verna surely enjoys some additional features over the other two cars here. The infotainment unit of the new Verna offers a touchscreen interface and supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay both. Also, the Verna offers ventilated seats. Also, the top-end Verna offers an electric sunroof and as many as six airbags.
