After the Toyota Innova was spied testing, the focus now shifts on the Fortuner with a lot of its spy-shots going around. With both the models scheduled to launch in 2016 and sharing its platform with the Hilux internationally, Toyota has been testing the Fortuner across different markets and is most likely to bring the SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo. There are also rumours of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner hitting select markets in South-East Asia next year.

Decoding The Spy-Shots:
As the spy-shots indicate the 2016 Toyota Fortuner retains the wide body appeal and continues with similar dimensions as the outgoing model. However, the next generation model will be given a more upmarket appearance. Expect to see a big and wide two-slat chrome grille, while the headlight cluster will be sharper and more angular than the current generation model. At the rear, expect to see wraparound tail lights sporting LEDs. The overall design will receive an overhaul with significant updates to the interiors. The SUV will sport a longer wheelbase.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform that will also underpin the 2016 Innova MPV and Hilux pickup models. The automaker will continue to use the ladder-frame chassis, instead of a monocoque setup, as it is proved to be more durable, rugged and reliable, adjectives synonymous with a Fortuner. However, the ladder frame setup will be significantly lighter than the outgoing version in favour of better performance.
Technical Specifications:
The next generation Toyota Fortuner is expected to receive a bump in poweer from the same 3.0-litre D4-D diesel engine. The current generation model produces 170 BHP but is not very quick because of the weight it drags around. Transmissions options are expected to be a 5-speed manual and an automatic unit from the outgoing model, though a 6-speed automatic would be more desirable. Like the outgoing model, the Fortuner will be offered with four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive options.
The Toyota Fortuner is likely to be launched in India sometime in 2016 and meanwhile to keep the buzz around the SUV alive in the festive period, Toyota Kirloskar Motor would be introducing two new variants,
- Entry level with a 2.5-litre diesel engine
- Top of the line with the 3.0-litre engine mated to an automatic transmission and a 4×4 system
