Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has been the undisputed leader of Indian car market since time immemorial now. While the manufacturer has a large arsenal of vehicles, it is in the ultra competitive hatchback segment where Maruti has a definite expertise. There was a time when the humble old Maruti 800 was the largest selling car of the country by a huge margin. Today, the manufacturer sells more than 20,000 copies of its alto hatchback every month and from the looks of it, the Alto will continue to reign over the small car market in coming times. Earlier in May 2016, Maruti came up a minor makeover for the Alto 800 to keep it fresh in the market. Here we have all details on 2016 Maruti Alto 800

Mechanically, the new 2016 Alto 800 remain unchangeds. This means that powering the refreshed Alto 800 is the tried and tested Suzuki F8D 796 cc, three-cylinder engine that comes mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. This motor pumps out a max. power of 47.65 PS @ 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 69 Nm @ 3500 rpm. The Alto is available in both Petrol and CNG avatars. Maruti could give the engine an ECU remap to further optimize the fuel mileage. As we said, the Diesel model of the Alto 800 won’t be launched anytime soon. However, powering the Diesel Alto will be a 800 cc, twin-cylinder engine that has a maximum power of 47.5 PS and peak torque of 120 Nm.

2016 Maruti Alto 800 Facelift Changes
Exterior
As we said, the 2016 Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 won’t boast of any significant changes over the current model. External visual updates for the Alto 800 include a slightly revised set of headlamps and a new front grille. These two changes should be enough to freshen up the front fascia of the 2016 Alto 800. Also, the hood and the side profile of the new Alto could go under the scalpel and boast of some sharp character lines to enhance the dynamism of the design. The taillights too could get a minor revision. It is being said that the top-end variants of the 2016 Alto will also get a set of restyled taillights. In all likelihood, the 2016 Alto will look closer to the Alto K10 than its present iteration. We’ve earlier caught Maruti testing the Japanese Suzuki Alto on Indian roads. The Alto also gets a new green colour. However, there are really slim chances of the JDM-spec car influencing the way the 2016 Maruti Alto 800 would look like.
Interior
The interior too should see some minor changes. It is expected to get an upholstery update and a new shade for the interior panels such as the dashboard. Again, some design cues could be carried over from the K10’s interior to spice up the Alto 800’s cabin. It is also likely to get a handful of new features. We expect the 2016 Maruti Alto 800 facelift to offer remote boot lid opener, reverse parking sensors, ABS and Dual-front SRS airbags at least as optional extras.
Colours
The Alto 800 will continue to come in a choice of five exterior colours –
- Torque Blue
- Silky Silver
- Granite Grey
- Superior White
- Blazing Red
