Spy shots of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz M-Class facelift hidden behind layers of camouflage have been doing the rounds for quite sometime now, but recently worldcarfans.com caught the upgraded M-class on a test run in Germany without its usual layers of disguise. Though a host of feature are blacked out, it gives a decent view on what to expect in the next installment of this midsize luxury SUV. The M-class has been one of the most desired vehicles from the German manufacturers with the current third generation being launched in 2011. The upcoming upgrade is all set for a 2015 launch and will be introduced as the 2016 model. The upgraded version will stand out as compared to its predecessor with major changes like:
- A more prominent two bar grille, aligning the M-class with the current line of Mercedes design philosophy.
- Redesigned headlights which seem to be inspired from the S-Class.
- A new front bumper.
- A revised rear bumper enclosing a tweaked dual exhaust at the back.
- Subtle changes to the overall body and hood to facilitate differentiation from the 2011 model but nothing major on this front is expected or seen.
The above mentioned are the changes that are validated by the latest batch of spy-shots. In an attempt to make maintain the upmarket status that Mercedes commands, the Interiors are also said to be getting a touch up with a redesigned centre console and a floating touchscreen system to be implemented, The latest version of COMAND infotainment system shall also be found in the new M-class along with a sportier three-spoke steering wheel.
While all this is happening on the outside, under the hood Mercedes is set to carry over its existing powertrain. Internationally the M-Class comes with the option of a 3.0-litre diesel producing 240 BHP, 3.5-litre diesel producing 302 BHP and a 5.5-litre diesel producing 518 BHP of power. The engines though could be tuned to offer improved fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions. Though there are speculations of a new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 330 BHP (245 kW) and 480 Nm of torque. There are whispers of a Hybrid going around, but nothing official has been put out By the makers yet.
