Skoda today revealed their second concept car heading for the Worthersee show, while the first one is more of an open-top city car (The Skoda CitiJet), the second one is the mean and rugged Yeti Extreme. The concept mixes rally-inspired chassis updates and equipment with a lurid colour scheme to demonstrate the versatile potential of its popular compact SUV.
On the outside, the Czech prototype has received a matt-grey paint finish with fluorescent yellow highlights, muscular body kit with larger air intakes, flared wheel arches and a height-adjustable chassis. Furthermore, it boasts of two hexagonal exhaust pipes and has received underbody protection to create a more aggressive appearance. Other Features include Octavia RS-sourced brakes, tinted windows, 17-inch alloys shod in chunky off-road tires and LED headlights.
Inside the cabin there are four individual Recaro seats with built-in four-point safety belts, carbon fiber door panels, along with a thermos flask built into the holders installed in the paneling. It also comes with an aluminum floor panel while in the trunk there’s a spare wheel together with “recovery tracks” which are in fact traction mats used when the car gets stuck.
Under the bonnet, the 2014 Skoda Yeti Xtreme Concept features a four-cylinder, 1.8 liter TSI gasoline engine which can deliver 150 Hp and 250 Nm peak of torque. The resources are sent to both axles via a six speed DSG gearbox. As a result, the Yeti Xtreme can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in nine seconds, while the top speed is clocked at 192 km/h.
“We want to continue the positive development and to grow further with new models over the coming years. Therefore we are going to strengthen the emotional vibrancy of the brand. Skoda Yeti Xtreme – as a dynamic and powerful compact SUV concept – demonstrates the brand’s strong expertise in four-wheel drive technology, as well as our know-how when it comes to rally sports”, says Werner Eichhorn, Skoda Board Member for Sales and Marketing.
Making it clear that Skoda will no longer feature in the “also-ran” column when it comes to High performance SUV’s, The Yeti Xtreme and the recent Yeti Facelift, bear testament to this new found intent.
