The tide seems to be turning for Mitsubishi in India. Just a few months ago, the Japanese car maker was furiously discontinuing its cars from the Indian market due to poor sales, the Outlander, Cedia Sports and the Evo X were taken off from the market. Pajero Sport remained the sole flag bearer for Mitsubishi and the company sold about 171 units per month. But, it has been proved once again that it is impossible for automobile manufacturers to ignore the booming Indian market for very long. This becomes even more important in times when the developed markets worldwide are facing saturation.
Recently, Hindustan Motors, the Indian partner of the Japanese car maker announced that it will be launching the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander in early 2014. The car was put up for public viewing first time during the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. Hindustan Motors has confirmed the fact that the company has been working on the new model for the diesel version which will fit in the UV4 segment.

Off late, Mitsubishi’s focus in India has been on the utility segment with Pajero and Outlander putting up a decent show. For the upcoming Outlander, the company intends to target the upper class segment which includes corporate honchos, celebrities and top executives. While the specifications of the Outlander earmarked for the Indian market are not yet known, it may be insightful to check out the specifications of the 2014 Outlander sold in the Europe.
It comes with a 2.2 liter 147 BHP diesel engine which delivers 380 NM torque for manual and auto variant respectively. For transmission, you can choose either a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic gearbox. Chances are very high that a similar engine will be used for the Indian offering as well. We are looking forward to the launch, are you?
