All of us know about Mercedes-Benz, a really old and respected German auto brand. We also know about Mercedes AMG which is a sister division of the popular car brand and specializes in performance oriented versions of the standard models offered by Merc. But only a few of us know about the AMG Black Series cars which first entered production back in 2006.
The first car to get AMG Black Series as a prefix was the SLK 55 AMG Black Series in 2006, followed by CLK 63 AMG Black Series in 2007, SL 65 AMG Black Series in 2008, and the C 63 AMG Black Series in 2011. The fifth model that gets a place in this very special list list is the 2014 SLS AMG Black Series, which essentially a hardcore performance version of the SLS AMG GT which in turn is a race oriented version of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.
The SLS AMG Black Series is a serious machine that does not joke when it comes to performance. Constructed in accordance with the AMG Lightweight Performance strategy, the car has a kerb weight of 1550 kilograms which an achieved power to weight ratio of 2.45 kg per horsepower. With a 6.3 litre V8 engine that develops 631 BHP of max power and 635 Nm of peak torque, the SLS AMG Black Series is a true supercar.
The powerful engine helps the car attain a top speed of 315 km/h and an impressive 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 3.6 seconds. The SLS AMG standard produces 571 BHP at max and with the additional 60 BHP on the Black Series the car will surely compete well with the Ferraris and Lamborghinis. The car features a dual clutch transmission called AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission and it has been fitted 10 mm lower in order to lower the centre of gravity for enhanced driving dynamics.
The transmission features four models: C, S, S+ and M. The ‘Sport Plus’ and ‘Manual’ modes provide sportier performance than the SLS AMG and SLS AMG GT.
Other highlights of the SLS AMG Black Series include new wheel carriers on front axle and new front stabilizer tuning for added grip, reduced roll angle in fast cornering, AMG 10-spoke light-alloy wheels providing better strength, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres – 275/35 R 19 at front and 325/30 R 20 at rear, Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround sound system, an exquisite interior, and much more.
Despite the fact that this car is complete in all senses, Mercedes-Benz is offering a couple of customization options for prospective buyers who would wish their SLS AMG Black Series to be different. The options are as follows:
