Mercedes Benz, the German car manufacturer has had a cult following in India from before the time BMW and Audi entered the market. Even though the company has been feeling the heat of its German compatriots for a while now, it has been fighting back pretty strongly. The company has been on a launch spree in India off late and has launched a slew of cars this year, including the A-Class and the new E-Class. To add to the list of launches this year, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG will be launched on July 25. It will be going head on against the Audi RS5 and the to be launched Audi S6 in India. The car will be brought in the country as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) so you can expect the price to be on the higher side.
The E63 AMG will be the performance edition of the E-Class which was launched in India recently. The AMG will be different from the regular variant under the hood and visually too. On the outside, it will get the typical AMG styled “A-wing” which will form lower intakes and on top of it will be a twin blade grille. At the rear, the car will get a black finished rear diffuser and a twin exhaust setup that you usually associate with an AMG.
Other additions due to the AMG kit are all new bumpers, wind splitters, a rear spoiler lip and the AMG badging.
The car gets AMG branding on the inside as well along with silver seatbelts and alcantara inserts in the nappa leather steering wheel which is flanked by silver paddle shifters. Other interior features include drilled pedals and a AMG drive control unit as well. Internationally, the car is available with two power output options: one gives out 557 BHP and the other 585 BHP. We expect the former to touch down on Indian shores but we would not mind if Mercedes decides to bring the latter either.
The Indian spec 2014 E63 AMG will be the one with a 5.5 litre twin turbo V8 petrol motor that will belt out 557 BHP of power and a peak torque of 720 NM. It will ensure that you are literally pinned to the seat of the car. This engine will be mated to an AMG 7-speed automatic gearbox that will send the power to all the wheels.
The company has been quite aggressive in India lately, expect it to be priced in Rs.90-95 lakhs price bracket.
