The Maruti Alto is one of the largest selling cars in India and one of the most important models for the company due the sales volumes it brings in with the Alto 800 being the major contributor of the two; Alto 800 and Alto K10 with the latter definitely being the more exciting one. The new 2014 Maruti Alto K10 is based on the current Alto 800 with a new design, better interiors and other features including an optional AMT. Read on to find out what the 2014 Maruti Alto K10 new model is all about.
Price
Prices will be confirmed at the time of the official launch of the vehicle but we expect the new Maruti Alto K10 to cost somewhere between Rs. 3- 4 lakh (ex-showroom).
Design
As mentioned earlier the K10 is based on the Alto 800 which means it gets a taller stance and a more upright rear. Maruti had to elongate the bonnet to fit the larger 1 litre engine and along with that they’ve also thoroughly updated the exteriors and the interiors. On the outside the new Maruti Alto K10 features larger, sharper headlamps with a dual grille. The strong shoulder line stretches till the rear end which houses a well designed set of rear tail lamps integrated nicely with a flatter bootlid.
The interiors of the new Maruti Alto K10 are a breath of fresh air with a very upmarket design complimented by the black and beige colour scheme. The instrument cluster looks very modern and the centre console gets a piano black finish which give the car a more premium feel. The front seats, however, get fixed headrests reminding us of its budget friendly nature. The backside of the front seats have been scooped out to create more rear knee room but on the downside the front passengers can feel the rear passengers’ knees.
Engine & Transmission
The new Maruti Alto K10 features the same 1.0 litre 3 cylinder 67 bhp K-Series engine from the outgoing car with a peak troque output of 9.18 kgm. The most significant update in this department is the option of an automatic transmission, the AMT autobox borrowed form the Celerio along with the usual 5 speed manual transmission. Buyers will also have the option of choosing the new Maruti Alto K10 in a CNG guise.
