Just a couple of days ago, Fiat India had announced that for 2013 calendar year, they are going to get very aggressive. With aggressive, they meant they will be bringing in 2 very famous brands of the global Fiat stable to India, Fiat Abarth and Jeep. With the Indian auto segment grown by leaps and bounds in the past few years and still growing at a similar pace, Fiat wants to make up for all the lost time, when it was in a tie-up with Tata Motors for sales and service. In the Jeep line-up, Fiat will be bringing in the 2014 version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee which made its debut at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. The 2014 model gets some cosmetic upgrades but that is not the talk of the show.
The real talk is the 3 litre V6 diesel engine that lies underneath the bonnet. This motor churns out 345 PS of power and is mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox. Power is sent to all the 4 wheels. There are 2 petrol versions available too- a 3.6 litre V6 engine and a 5.7 litre V8 engine which also gets the new 8 speed transmission. The high performance brand of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the SRT comes with a 6.4 litre HEMI engine that makes 476PS of power and 629Nm of torque. Cosmetic changes on the standard Grand Cherokee includes revised headlights, tail lights, front bumpers, silver mesh for the grilles and restyled rear bumpers.
While for the SRT, it features a sportier front bumper, black portions around the headlights, new rear spoiler and rear bumper with oval exhaust pipes. Other models that Jeep showcased at the Detroit Show included the Compass and the Patriot SUVs. Both the models get similar styling upgrades making them look more modern and appealing. Interiors of the Grand Cherokee also get some tweaks like a redesigned central console, 3-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters and an 8.4-inch entertainment system.
