The current generation Toyota Corolla Altis has been in the market for quite some time and its time the Japanese auto major gave it some refreshment. Looks like Toyota indeed is thinking in the same lines and according to a comment given by Toyota and Scion USA vice president Bill Fay in an interview with WardsAuto, the next generation Toyota Corolla Altis will be totally new model compared to the current one. He hinted that the magnitude of change will be greater than what Toyota did with its Avalon recently. The Toyota Avalon is the company’s flagship sedan for the US market and sits one notch above the Camry.
The outgoing model looked like a blander and boring form of Camry while the refurbished one looks more sporty and interesting. The Corolla Altis commands a big market share in the Malaysian automotive market and apparently a leading Malaysian auto site, Paultan.org has come up with a rendering on what the next generation Altis might look like. The rendering clearly suggests that the design has been based on the Toyota Auris with an extended boot. In my personal opinion, the basic design form for the Corolla Altis might be emerging from the Auris but with undergo some more subtle changes, say to the front and back to boost sales.
Take the case in India. The Toyota Corolla Altis does sell a lot yet the owners are not totally happy about the entire package that Toyota offers currently. The diesel engine needs special mention here since it is highly underpowered. The level of interior instrumentation is far less compared to what its competition is currently offering. According to some media reports, it seems that few Toyota engineers and management chaps were called to Japan to have a look at the mock-up version of the vehicle. We expect Toyota to deliver the new Altis by 2013-14 to Indian roads.
Toyota recently launched its luxury sedan the 7th generation 2012 Toyota Camry in India which is major upgrade over the previous generations in terms of aesthetics, design and exterior appeal. It has forgone its curvy looks for new shaper design which is also expected on the next generation Corolla. We will keep you updated on the new Corolla Altis, stay tuned to Car Blog India for more updates.

Updated on 30th August 2012:
Some pictures of 2013 New Toyota Corolla test mule have been spied in USA. The car looks almost like the popular Auris from the nose section. There are pronounced wheel arches which are quite visible from even behind the camouflage. Fog lamps seem round and surrounded by triangular enclosing.
The rear gets an integrated spoiler at the boot lid just like we see in 2012 new Toyota Camry 7th generation. Side profile looks larger than the ongoing Corolla Altis.
The tail lamp cluster also seems to have undergone the knife as there is a visible facelift there too.
On a closer look, what we see is a tail lamp cluster which becomes pointed towards the mid of the boot lid.
Also the interiors of the new 2013 Toyota Camry will get a major uplift along with the exteriors. We will keep you posted on more details. Stay tuned to Car Blog India for more updates.
