Back in 2008, Ford came up with the Ford Fiesta hatchback. It was accepted with open arms and recorded good sales but since then the company did not bring any facelift model of the same, though everybody expected. Obviously the American major was planning something better and here it is, the 2013 Ford Fiesta Hatchback.
The test mule was recently spied by one of the fellow blogs, WorldCarFans, and we are glad that finally if not new, at least something refreshing is due to come. As seen from the pictures, the car’s rear is a identical to the original model while the front fascia is yet to get the cosmetic changes.
Though difficult to understand the new styling of the car, its layout is quite identical to Ford Fiesta ST Concept, showcased last year. The front has a masculine nature with a similar grille configuration as seen on the recent, 2013 Ford Mondeo. Another very interesting feature is the addition of LED lights at the bottom of the headlamps.
There was another picture clearly telling about the engine present under the hood of this prototype. Interestingly it was a 3 cylinder, turbocharged 1.0 GDI Ford Ecoboost engine that generates 80 BHP of power. The same was developed in UK and the production of the same will commence in April.
We expect to see the production model of the 2013 Fiesta hatchback at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March so stay tuned for more updates. The new Fiesta hatch is unlikely to make its entry into the Indian auto market anytime soon, but if Ford decides to bring it to India, it will be placed between the Figo and Fiesta Sedan and will compete with other premium hatchback like the Hyundai i20, Fiat Grande Punto etc., but since the Ford Fiesta sedan 2011 itself is producing sluggish sales number because of its premium pricing against the competition, the Fiesta hatch’s entry into Indian market is a distant target.
