Fiat has been a tough challenger in the market since it launched the Fiat Grande Punto and Fiat Linea but being slightly expensive products, a gap in the company’s sales will always be there which could only be filled by another car which is priced right.
Recently the pictures a new small car model from Fiat, in a camouflage, have surfaced the internet and the disguise completely hides the identity of the car leaving no clue which one it could be. Since it least resembles the Fiat Panda and the Fiat Uno it terms of designing and overall proportions, it is expected to be the new 2012 Fiat Palio.
This new models seems to be cheaper than the Punto and there is a possibility that the manufacturer will bring it to Indian shores to revive its fortunes in the hatchback segment, in a year or two if they find it feasible enough.
I believe the company has realized that to gain volumes in India one need not produce upmarket products or provide best in class features but one has to provide an affordable car which is reliable enough. This creates a possibility that the company might position it below the Punto to compete with Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i10, 2011 Maruti Swift etc..
Importantly the company has got the much needed European styling, acclaimed engine technology and innovative features which are good enough to give other cars a run for their money. So we can expect a new small car similar in design to the above camouflaged one in a while from now.
