Indian Motorsports fraternity has been hit by a pleasant surprise. FIA GT1 World Championship, a renowned, sports car racing series, has chosen the Buddha International Circuit to host the final round of 2012 GT1 World Championship.
Developed by SRO Group and regulated by Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile(FIA), the series started in 2010 and features grand tourer race cars which are based on the production models of many known cars. Global majors like Aston Martin, Ford, Lamborghini, Maserati, Nissan and Chevrolet (General Motors) participate in this series with their amazingly tweaked cars and this year even Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari are expected to join the league.

The final round will be hosted by BIC on 2nd December 2012. Series boss, Stephane Ratel said, “India completes the 2012 calendar in every way. It fulfills our ambition to continue to break new ground in global markets, taking world-class GT racing to new and exciting locations. To secure events in the three capital cities of the three fastest-growing markets for luxury cars is a major step forward”

- 8th April – France – Nogaro
- 22nd April – Belgium – Zolder
- 27th May – Spain – Navarra
- 8th July – Portugal – Algarve
- 26th August – China – Beijing
- 2nd September – China – Ordos
- 16th September – Russia – Moscow
- 7th October – The Netherlands – Zandvoort
- 4th November – Argentina – San Luis
- 2nd December – India – Greater Noida
