Here is an interesting news emerging from General Motors’ stable. If believing in the report, GM is planning to launch a new SUV in the Indian market and what’s so interesting about it, is the fact that it will be positioned below the 2012 Chevrolet Captiva, showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo. Chevrolet announced its plans of introducing the new Captiva in 2012 but the new piece of information raises a couple of doubts on where the new Trailblazer SUV will be positioned and what price tag will it carry.
The new Captiva features a 2.2 litre turbodiesel engine mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission. The same will be assembled in India through CKD kits thereby helping the brand to cut down the costs and price it competitively against its foes.

Contradicting the Captiva news, the Trailblazer, as per the report, is supposed to be priced closed to Rs. 17 lakhs, which is a price that could severely affect the sales of Captiva. Going over the specifications of the car, it tells a completely different story as it offers more power and torque with its significantly bigger engine. It equips a 2.8 litre 180 BHP CRDI diesel engine and a 2.5 litre 150 BHP engine. Expectedly the 2.8 litre engine that offers 469 Nm of torque will make it to India as in performance, it is quite close to what other premium SUVs offer.

The same will compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. Considering the engine of the car and the interior space, it beats both Fortuner and Endeavour. Chevrolet says that the SUV is the most clean-sheet truck designed in its 100 year history and claims the same to sport car-like features and offer proper seven seater space. Trailblazer in all hope, will be assembled at the Halol facility via CKD kits.
