Recently we brought you Nissan TeRRA and Peugeot 2008 concept vehicles which are going to make their debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, to be held from 29th September to 14th October. Now we have for you the latest concept car from BMW’s stable called as 2012 BMW Active Tourer Concept.
This compact car is a plug-in hybrid and the first core BMW product to feature the eDrive seen previously in BMW i8. It equips all the components of the electric drive, including the electric motor developed by BMW, intelligent engine control unit and the lithium-ion battery. In terms of appeal and quality, the car is a true BMW product. Dimensions of the Tourer Concept are as follows; 4,350 millimeters of length, 1,834 millimeters of width and a total height of 1,560 millimeters.
The design of the car is very attractive. It has the conventional BMW radiator grille, sleek headlamps with LED lights reaching the side panels, large air inlets just below the headlamps, integrated door openers, large 20 inch alloy wheels, short rear overhang for that sporty feel, large tail lamps running into the side panels, large tailgate etc.
Well I have to say that it has a refreshingly new interior design. Especially the laminated wood panel milled from a single block gives that elegant feel to the passenger cabin. Other interior features include velvety soft full grain leather for trim panels and seats, a seamlessly integrated centre console, instruments in Black Panel Technology are within driver’s field of vision, full color head up display (optional) etc.
As mentioned above, the car features BMW eDrive technology which essentially is combination of an electric drive and an internal combustion engine. The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) features a 1.5 litre petrol engine which drives the front wheels. The electric motor instead powers the rear wheels, and together with a total power output of 190 BHP, the car delivers sporty performance while maintaining extremely low fuel consumption and emission levels.
The electric motor, developed by BMW, has a range of 30 kilometers when charged fully. If needed, it can alone power the rear wheels and and can generate a max torque of 200 Nm. The lithium ion battery pack can be charged at any 220 volt household power socket.
