The popular Italian car maker Fiat has taken the wraps off the 2013 Fiat Punto UK Model. I know the tag ‘Grande’ is missing but it is not missing as Fiat will not be using it on the Punto. Fiat’s CEO Sergio Marchionne is cautiously working on the next generation Punto but since the market cannot take the outgoing Punto for that long, the company was left with no other choice but to bring in a new Punto.
The word NEW does not go with the 2013 Punto as Fiat has only made a couple of changes on the exterior and interior and launched the car. The tweaking strategy has been adopted for both 3 door and 5 door Punto models across the globe including the UK.

On the exterior the car has received a couple of updates such as a new front bumper, new rear bumper, new front grille with a hexagonal mesh, new Fiat badge at the rear which also acts as a button to open the tailgate(hatch) and new 15 inch alloys(look inspired from Mercedes AMG).

Optional features include darkened headlamps, body coloured electrically adjustable door mirrors, sports suspension, body coloured rear spoilers and side skirts. The interior has also been updated which looks more upmarket now. Beside the bodily changes Fiat is also offering a new range of engines consisting of 1.2 litre and 1.4 litre units. The line-up now includes Fiat’s award winning TwinAir turbocharged engine that offers performance of a 4 cylinder engine but economy of a 2 cylinder engine.

Fiat is also offering a pair of 1.4 litre MultiAir engines, one with a turbocharger and one without. MultiAir engines deliver more power and better efficiency due to the fact that combustion is controlled via the intake valves and not the throttle. The petrol variant is offered with 1.2 and 1.4 litre units. Along with all the above engines you also get a pair of class leading Multijet 2 diesel engines which put out 75 and 85 BHP respectively.

In UK, the base variant is called as Pop while the top end Lounge and the line-up is priced between 9900 GBP and 15000 GBP(Rs. 8.5 to 13.3 Lakhs). Apart from the standard variants there is a themed variant called as GBT which pays homage to Fiat’s support and involvement with British Cycling team. The GBT variant is offered with 15 inch alloy wheels, low and stiff suspension, boot spoiler, tinted glass and side skirts. Expect the 2013 Indian model to sport the same look but do not expect similar features including the amazing alloys.

The model presented above is for the UK market and is a bit different from the Brazilian model which was spied recently. Both the models seem to country specific which is quite common as different markets have different taste and demand. The outgoing Indian model is definitely not as impressive in looks as this one and we expect Fiat to launch the same in 2013. Stay tuned for more updates on the 2013 Punto.
