A total of 10 scooters have been discontinued in India as they have not received the BS6 upgrade. Here is the entire list with all the details.
Costly engine upgrades and low sales have forced many manufacturers to discontinue their models once the BS6 norms kicked in. Around 21 two-wheelers have been discontinued which includes 10 scooters as well. BS6 emission norms have commenced in India from April 1. After 25th April, no BS4 vehicle can be registered over the country. Only BS6 cars, scooters and bikes will be sold. If you want to buy a BS4 car, you can get it as a second-hand model.
Most of these scooters have been discontinued due to poor sales over the year. The primary reason why manufacturers are not updating all of their models with BS6 engines is because the transition is costly and it makes no point to spend all that money on a low selling product. In such a case, Suzuki has not discontinued a single motorcycle or scooter. Its entire lineup is BS6 compliant now.
Here is the entire list of 10 BS4 scooters that won’t be receiving a BS6 engine.
Honda
- Activa-i
- Navi
- Cliq
Honda has discontinued the Activa-i, Navi and Cliq scooters. Activa-i was launched with the same 110cc engine from Activa but it was lighter for female and older riders. It was also, comparatively cheaper than the regular one. Navi and Cliq were launched to appeal to the younger generation at very affordable prices. However, even after that, both of them failed to make a space in the market.
Yamaha
- Ray Z 110
- Ray ZR 110
- Fascino 110
Yamaha has decided to quit the 110cc scooter segment and move on to the 125cc one. The latter is more promising seeing the gradual spike over the years. For that, Yamaha has discontinued the Ray Z, Ray ZR and Fascino, all coming with 110cc engines. Instead, the manufacturer has launched Ray ZR and Fascino with a 125cc engine and refreshed styling.
Hero Motocorp
- Maestro Edge 110
- Duet
- Pleasure
Due to the poor sales, Hero has discontinued the Maestro Edge 110 and Duet. Both were 110cc scooters finding it too hard in the segment which is dominated by Activa and Jupiter. Also, the ageing 100cc Pleasure has been completely discontinued now. Now, Hero has only one 110cc scooter that is the Pleasure Plus. In the 125cc department, it has Destini 125 and Maestro Edge 125.
TVS
- Wego
TVS Wego was one of the best selling scooters of its time. It was something different from the boring Activa and also came with many features. However, post the introduction of Jupiter, Wego has been neglected by buyers. Over the years, its sales have dropped massively and now TVS has laid it to rest.
