Kia Sonet has finally crossed the 1.5 lakh sales mark in the Indian market. It has a 15% market share in the compact SUV segment.
Kia Sonet is one of the most popular cars in the Indian market. It was launched two years ago. Now, Kia India has announced that the compact SUV has sold 1.5 lakh units in the country. It now commands a 15% market share in this segment. While 41% of customers chose the diesel powertrain, the iMT was selected by 25% of customers. The Kia Sonet competes with the likes of Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, and Maruti Brezza. Let’s take a closer look!

“We are delighted that Sonet has added 1.5 Lakh customers to the Kia India family. Today’s evolved urban Indian customer is dynamic, tech-savvy, and bold, and we are incredibly proud to have developed a product that has proven to be the right companion for them,” said Mr. Myung-sik Sohn – Chief Sales Officer, Kia India. “The Sonet has won several accolades not only for its design, performance, and practicality but also by creating favourability for iMT and introducing the only Diesel AT in the segment. In April this year, we added 4 airbags as standard across even the lower variants of Sonet, further enhancing the vehicle’s safety and propelling its popularity,” he added.
The Kia Sonet range is priced between ₹7.15 lakh and ₹13.69 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). It is powered by a 1-liter turbo-petrol (120PS/ 172Nm) with a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT. The 1.2-liter petrol (83PS, 115Nm) comes with a 5-speed MT (1.2-litre petrol). Whereas the 1.5-liter diesel is paired with a standard 6-speed MT and an optional6-speed AT. The Kia Sonet comes with features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof, wireless charging, air purifier, UVO-connected car tech, up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, vehicle stability management, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The sub-compact SUV comes in six trims – HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, and GTX+. The safety features across all variants were recently updated. This includes high-line TPMS, side airbags, and back seat folding knobs. The curtain airbags are standard (HTX+ variant onwards). The base HTE variant comes with semi-leatherette seats. The mid-spec HTK+ variant (IMT) comes with electronic features like ESC, VSM, HAC, and BA. Additionally, the HTX and HTX Anniversary edition variants come with a 4.2-inch MID (previously found in the higher variants).
