The Ford EcoSport can be safely credited with popularizing the sub-4 metre Compact SUV in India. The EcoSport gains from a modern design, efficient engines, car-like driving dynamics and an attractive price tag. However, the current gen EcoSport is already in the second-half of its career. The advent of rivals like the Vitara Brezza has had an adverse effect on sales of the EcoSport. Ford, however, has readied a re-styled EcoSport that was revealed last year. 2017 Ford EcoSport India Launch Date

India will among the first few markets to get this car. According to some very reliable sources, the 2017 Ford EcoSport India launch will take place by the 2017 Festive season. It maybe noted that the EcoSport got a minor update in October 2015. However, the upcoming facelift is much more comprehensive in nature. It will definitely infuse a lot of freshness with this car. Testing is already underway in India and Brazil. A mildly camouflaged test mule of the upcoming compact SUV was spotted recently.

2017 Ford EcoSport Price in India

Ford India could launch the entry-level Petrol variant of the EcoSport at a starting price of around Rs. 6.75 lakh. All this means that the updated model could be priced slightly lower than the current model to make the EcoSport an even more compelling buy. Currently, prices start at a shade under Rs 7 Lakh, but Vitara Brezza’s competitive pricing is likely to push Ford to launch the 2017 EcoSport at a lower price.

New 2017 Ford Ecosport India Specifications

The India-spec Ford EcoSport is on sale in three engine variants. The highlight of the engine line-up is the very potent 1.0 EcoBoost turbo’ed Petrol motor. The 2017 EcoSport, however, could also feature another modern engine in the form of a new 1.5 three-pot motor for the international market. The 2017 EcoSport will be also available with the current 2.0-litre motor in some of the markets. However, the Indian version will continue to feature all three engines it is presently available with. The most popular engine option currently is the 1.5-litre Turbo Diesel motor. It was updated in 2015 to produce 100 PS-215 Nm.

Since the engine lineup is expected to be carried over unaltered, new 2017 Ford Ecosport India – specifications should not be too different from the current model. While in American markets, the new model will offer a 4×4 option, our market will not get this option.

New 2017 Ford Ecosport India Review- Interior

As we have been saying, the changes that have been made to upcoming facelift are really comprehensive in nature. This means that the 2017 EcoSport features a thoroughly re-styled exterior and interior to enhance its aesthetic appeal. The 2017 EcoSport gets a new dashboard that has a new instrument binnacle. The speedo console comes with a new Multi-Information Display and new fonts. Other than this, the upholstery is also likely to be new. The car gets a new multi-function steering wheel, rectangular-shaped AC vents, revised new centre console, and an updated SYNC infotainment system with a new touchscreen display

New 2017 Ford Ecosport India Review- Exterior

The biggest change on the outside is the new front fascia. The radiator grille takes inspiration from the new gen Ford Edge and even the hood, fenders and headlamps have been slightly updated. The headlamps now feature projector units and LED DRLs. Lower trims get a convetional halogen bulb setup. The only change at the rear is a new design for the bumper. Unlike the international-spec model, the 2017 EcoSport for India will continue to have a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

Since the India-spec model will retain the tail gate mounted spare wheel, the number plate will continue to be mounted on the rear bumper. Which means, the faux silver skid plate seen in the image below will not be a part of the updates on the 2017 Ford EcoSport for India.

Ford Ecosport 2017 India – Engine and Transmission

Ford will carry forward the engine lineup of the current model without any changes. This means buyers will get to choose from either a 1.5 L petrol, 1.5 L Diesel or a 1.0 L EcoBoost petrol. The only automatic option will be in the form of the 1.5 L Petrol with a 6 speed DCT. Apart from that, transmission duties will be taken care of by a 5 speed manual gearbox. In 2015, Ford gave the 1.5 L Diesel a small update pushing the power output up to 99 PS. The 1.0 L EcoBoost will be the most powerful of the three engine options on offer with 124 bhp on tap. At 205 Nm, the 1.5 Litre Diesel churns out the most amount of torque.

The EcoSport has been a mainstay of Ford’s model lineup in India since its launch. Despite its popularity, Ford has not given the popular compact SUV any major updates since its launch. The much needed upcoming facelift should help the EcoSport appeal to a greater audience.
