KTM 250 Duke
The 250cc motor that powers the new KTM 250 Duke is a single-cylinder unit that is based on the bigger 373.2cc motor of the RC390 and 390 Duke. This 250cc motor has a 4 valve DOHC configuration and Nikasil coating on its cylinder. Nikasil is a trademarked electrodeposited lipophilic nickel matrix silicon carbide coating. The new motor, which weighs 37.2 kgs, pumps out a maximum power of 31.3 PS @ 9000 RPM and a peak torque of 24Nm @ 7250 rpm. Aesthetically, the 250 Duke looks much like the 200 Duke and 390 Duke. Pics of this bike reveal the presence of ABS. The 250 Duke tips the scales at 139 kgs.
KTM RC250
While the new KTM RC250 enjoys same power as its streetnaked sibling, it weighs 147kgs, which is 8 kgs more than the 250 Duke. The new model rivals the Honda CBR 250R and the Kawasaki Ninja 250SL. Both the new KTM motorcycles boast of steel trellis frame and in all probability, the new models will be manufactured at BAL’s Chakan facility.
Until now, we believed that there were slim chances of the new KTM 250 Duke and KTM RC250 making it to our country’s bike market. However, with the latest rumour having spread like wildfire, we won’t be too surprised to see the new 250cc Katooms at the 2016 Auto Expo early next year.
