Hyundai Motors India Limited, the second largest car maker in India is studding the pulse of Indian market very closely and is doing very well with its existing lineup of cars in India. To remain competitive and growing strong in coming years, Hyundai is planning to enter compact SUV segment in India which is the upcoming segment with less than 4 meter length SUVs with sub-1200 CC Petrol and sub-1500 CC Diesel engines. These cars get special excise benefits of about 8% over the larger counterparts in India. Upcoming Mahindra Xylo mini is going to be one such SUV which will benefit from the lower excise. Hyundai India will showcase a concept car (SUV) of less than 4 meter in length which will come to Indian roads in coming years and add up to the existing portfolio of Hyundai car in India.

It will be interesting see a compact SUV from Hyundai India. So far, almost all small cars of Hyundai use Petrol engines in majority, so the compact SUV is also expected to use a 1.2 litre Kappa engine of the Hyundai i20 with probably improved power specs. Besides the petrol option, Hyundai also has a small CRDi Diesel engine used in i20 Diesel which may make its way to the compact SUV of Hyundai. It usually takes between 1 to 3 years for a concept to come to production versions, by which estimate we expect that the compact SUV concept from Hyundai India may make it to Indian roads towards end of year 2013.
