There is just a day remaining before the 2018 Auto Expo kicks off (the next Delhi Motor Show will be held from 7th February to 14th February 2018). However, speculations and rumours as to what manufacturers will bring to the next edition have already started doing the rounds. We have put together a list of possible cars that could be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo. Bear in mind, though, manufacturers may have different plans for some of their products you see here and some might just skip the next Auto Expo entirely. Maruti Cars at Auto Expo 2018
Maruti Suzuki could be planning to bring a host of new models to the AE2018. We’ve always seen plenty of excitement inside the pavilion of India’s largest-selling car maker and the 2018 Expo should be no different in this aspect. The most important new car debut is going to be that of the new generation Swift. Also, Maruti will come with some other strategically models such as a Renault Kwid-rival. Car aficionados will be happy to know that the new generation 2018 Maruti Jimny (Gypsy) is most likely to be among the plethora of new Maruti cars at Auto Expo 2018.

New Generation Maruti Swift

Among the most awaited cars at Auto Expo 2018 will be the all-new Swift. While the new Dzire will be launched in May 2017, Maruti Suzuki is yet to make any announcements regarding the launch of the all-new Swift. Right now, most rumours point towards a 2018 launch, but we won’t be surprised if MSIL decides to bring the new Swift before the end of 2017.

Accompanying the new Swift could be its hotter version, the Swift RS. Maruti recently launched the Baleno RS and an RS version of the Swift equipped with the same BoosterJet engine could make for a nice edition to their performance hatchback lineup. Suzuki sells the Swift in Europe with a 1.4 L engine as the Swift Sport. However, if India gets a similar variant, it is likely to have a 1.0 L boosterjet unit.

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on an all new hatchback to rival the Renault Kwid. The new hatchback is likely to sit alongside the Alto and cater to buyers looking for Kwid-like crossover-ish appeal. Expect the upcoming hatchback to make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in concept form.

The Grand Vitara that Maruti used to sell in India might not have been very successful. But with the Indian car buyer maturing and warming up to the idea of more premium Maruti Suzuki’s, MSIL could bring the SUV back. Following the successful introduction of the Vitara Brezza, Maruti stated that they will bring more expensive SUVs to India in the coming years. The Grand Vitara, armed with the S-Cross’ 1.6 L diesel, could be the ideal candidate.

Next on our list of upcoming cars at Auto Expo 2018 is the Ciaz facelift. While many expected Maruti to launch an updated Ciaz along with its transition to Nexa dealerships, that did not happen. Now, Maruti Suzuki could showcase the Ciaz facelift at the Auto Expo next year followed by its official launch soon afterwards.

Maruti is already struggling to cope with the demand for the Brezza. However, with operations at the Gujarat plant scheduled to start in full swing in the coming months, they should be able to clear the backlog. Once that happens, a petrol variant of the Brezza equipped with a 1.0 L Boosterjet engine could be launched. While this won’t be considerably cheaper than the diesel variant, it will cater to customers looking a for a bit more performance from the compact SUV.

Suzuki came up with an all-new Wagon R for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) earlier this year. The India-spec model will be based on the latest iteration but could have a slightly different design. Yes, the Maruti Gypsy is close to making a comeback. The 2018 Suzuki Jimny, which will basically give birth to the next generation Gypsy, will be in attendance at the 2018 Expo. It is no secret that Hyundai is currently working on the Elite i20 facelift. The Etios twins have been around for a while now and the globally popular Yaris could be the right candidate to replace the Liva hatchback. Tata’s upcoming SUV based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s platform could make a debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in some form. The launch of the Q501 is still some time away. It will be a premium offering that will rival the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass and even the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.

The Q502 is nothing but a smaller sibling of the Q501. While it will share in plenty with the Q501, it will be dimensionally smaller and will offer only 5 seats. The Q502, like the Q501, will be underpinned by the Land Rover Discovery platform. It could even get the excellent Land Rover Terrain Response system.

Tata could come up with X451 premium hatchback at the 2018 Auto Expo. This upcoming Tata car will rival the likes of Maruti Baleno and will be underpinned by the manufacturer’s new Advance Modular Platform. It will likely come with a 1.2-litre Petrol and a 1.2-litre Diesel engine. The upcoming Tata car could even get design hints from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)! We expect this car to get many modern features and a spacious cabin. The car should boast improved fit-and-finish and quality levels. Tata TaMo Racemo

Tata unveiled its two-seater sports car called Racemo at Geneva earlier this year. The car is expected to go on sale in India in early 2018. Tata might even showcase the C-Cube at the Auto Expo 2018. The Tamo C-Cube made its debut at the 2017 Future Decoded event in Mumbai. It’s not sure if this model will ever make it to the market, but in case it does, don’t expect the launch to happen before 2020.

Tata Motors has bagged an order to supply as many as 10,000 units of the Tigor Electric Vehicle to the Government of India. The price of the Tigor EV is Rs 10.16 lakh (excluding GST). Of course, there will be a different price once the car’s market launch takes place. The Tigor shares its 85 kW motor with the Tiago EV. This electric motor outputs a peak torque of 200 Nm and has a range of approx 100 kmph. The car has a top speed of 135 kmph and can go from 0 to 100 kmph in less than 11 seconds.

Ford India plans to launch an updated version of the Figo?. The new 2018 Ford Figo facelift will debut at the Auto Expo 2018. It will have a new 1.2-litre petrol engine that will offer better performance and higher mileage. The car will also have a fresher exterior and more features for the interior. Prices of the car could start at Rs 5.2 lakh and go all the way to Rs 7.6 lakh. The 1.5-litre Petrol and 1.5-litre Diesel engines will be carried forward unchanged. The Figo facelift will probably be successful in helping Ford India establish a stronger foothold in the very competitive lower B-segment of Indian car market.

Ford India is also likely to launch the new Aspire facelift in India. It will also have an updated exterior, better-equipped interior and the new 1.2-litre Petrol engine. Thanks to these updates, the car might get a slight price rise but we feel that the increase in the price will be justified. The Aspire sedan hasn’t exactly set sales charts on fire and now, the updated car might become a worthier rival to the likes of Maruti Dzire and Hyundai Xcent.

The Ford Figo Cross is basically the Indian version of the Ford Ka Trail on sale in Brazil. The Figo Cross is nothing but a slightly ruggedized variant of Ford’s B-segment hatchback. It gets some body cladding, updated bumpers, faux skid plates, and most importantly, bigger wheels and a higher ground clearance. We are expecting this car to launch by May next year. Prices could start at Rs 5.3 lakh and go all the way to Rs 8.6 lakh. The Figo Cross will come with the new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Dragon-series Petrol engine. This engine will even replace the current 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine that comes with the Figo and the Aspire.

The updated 2018 Ford Mustang will be at the Auto Expo 2018. It is expected to go on sale soon afterwards. The Mustang facelift gets changes to the styling, mechanical updates and an all new 10-speed automatic transmission. In its latest form, the Mustang also frop the V6 retaining only the 2.3 L EcoBoost and the 5.0 L V8. Ford might consider adding the convertible to the Mustang lineup if it feels there is enough demand.

At the 2018 Auto Expo, Ford might also showcase the new generation Fiesta hatchback. The Fiesta’s run in India has been a mixed bag. While the first generation model enjoyed reasonable success, its replacement bombed in the market. With the popularity of larger hatchbacks on the rise, Ford might consider bringing the 2017 model to India in its conventional hatchback form.

Speculations are rife that Renault India is planning to once again showcase the DeZir electric sports car in India. This attractive concept made its India debut back at the Auto Expo 2012. However, with the electric car fervour suddenly engulfing the country, Renault might decide once again bring this beautiful design study to the country. The DeZir is a lightweight sportscar that gets a mid-rear mounted electic motor. It enjoys a range of 160 KMs along with a top speed of over 180 kmph. It can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5 seconds and 0 to 50 kmph in merely 2 seconds. India launch looks unlikely anytime soon.
Renault Megane Sedan

There has been speculation suggesting Renault will launch a replacement for the now defunct Fluence in India. The model in question is the Megane sedan. It could be powered by 1.6 L Petrol and 1.6 L Diesel engines. With the D-segment struggling to cope with the onslaught of SUVs, Renault might put off launching the Megane sedan in India till the end of 2018. Still, it is expected to make an appearance at the 2018 Auto Expo.

The Koleos SUV might have turned out to be a market dud, but Renault may not have given up on it just yet. The new generation Duster is expected to make its international debut in the second half of 2017. According to reports, the new model will be available in two versions – 5 seats and 7 seats. The latter is being referred to as the Grand Duster. Expect the new Duster to be showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in India.

Renault India could soon come up with a Kwid-based compact SUV to attract the SUV-hungry car buying lot. The Kwid Compact SUV, as you must have guessed it, will be less than 4-metres in length and will share in plenty with the Kwid hatchback. The engine options aren’t clear at this stage but chances are that the current 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre motors won’t make it to the compact SUV. Instead, Renault is likely to use a 1.2-litre Petrol engine for the Kwid compact SUV. The manufacturer is expected to showcase a pre-production prototype at the Auto Expo 2018.

We saw two sportier variants of the Kwid hatchback at the last Delhi Auto Expo. One of these two variants, the Kwid Climber, is already on sale. It’s now time for the Kwid Racer to launch in the market. It’s expected that we will witness the Kwid Racer’s India launch at the Auto Expo 2018. The Kwid Racer comes with a body kit, alloy wheels and low-profile tyres. The exterior is draped in a sporty metallic blue finish.The show car at the last Expo also had a roll-cage and bucket seats. These look unlikely to make it to the production model. However, we do expect the production-spec car to offer the digital rev counter and leather upholstery. The production-spec Kwid Racer is sure to be one of the most interesting Renault Cars at Auto Expo 2018.
Nissan Cars at Auto Expo 2018
Nissan Kicks

Nissan is working on bringing a new small SUV to India. This new product in question is the Kicks. However, much like the Kaptur/Captur for India, the Kicks for our market will be based on the Duster/Terrano’s B0 platform and not the new CMF platform. This will help keep costs in check. Expect the 110 PS 1.5 L Diesel from the Terrano to power the Kicks. While the launch of the Kicks is still at least a year away, expect Nissan to put the upcoming small SUV on display at the Auto Expo.

Nissan first showcased the Leaf in India in 2015. Now, it seems they are evaluating the electric car for the Indian market. Although Nissan is adamant that the new Micra isn’t meant for the Indian market, it could still make an appearance at the 2018 Auto Expo. The latest generation Micra has ditched the cutesy looks of the model sold in India for a more aggressive exterior. The popularity of big hatchbacks is steadily on the rise so, Nissan might just decide to get the Micra to India by the end of 2018.
Datsun Go Cross

Previewed as a concept at the last Auto Expo, Datsun is likely to present the production spec version of the Go Cross at the upcoming Auto Expo. The GO Cross is based on the GO+ MPV. Expect the Go Cross to borrow the 1.2 L petrol engine from the GO hatchback. What remains to be seen is whether Datsun will stick to the compact car guidelines or ditch that in favour of a bigger engine.

Jeep will launch the Compass in India soon. The upcoming SUV will be made in India and is expected to carry a competitive price tag. At the Auto Expo 2018, Jeep will showcase the Trailhawk edition of the Compass. It is a relatively more hardcore version of the Compass complete with raised ride height, dual purpose off road tyres, skid plates, underbody protection and unique paint schemes. Expect the Trailhawk to become the most expensive variant in Compass’ lineup.

As per latest reports, FCA is now considering adding the Renegade small SUV to its lineup in India. Although similar in size to the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster, the Renegade will be more expensive than both and could be an ideal rival to the upcoming Honda HR-V, Renault Kaptur and Nissan Kicks. It has been caught testing on Indian roads on multiple occasions. Expect Jeep to launch the Renegade in India in the second half of 2018.
MG Cars at Auto Expo 2018
SAIC is likely to make its India debut by introducing MG Cars in India at the Auto Expo 2018. As per various reports, SAIC has already registered ‘MG Motor India’ as the name for their Indian subsidiary. Here are a couple of cars that MG Cars is likely to showcase at the 2018 Expo.

MG Cars India could commence its innings with the MG 3 hatchback. GM showcased a small SUV concept at the 2014 Auto Expo called Adra. It was expected to go o sale in 2017. However, the development of the EcoSport rival was put on hold as GM was re-evaluating its plans for the Indian market. However, the plans to launch a new small SUV could now be back on track and a pre-production version could make an appearance at the 2018 Auto Expo.
Audi Cars at Auto Expo 2018
Even Audi India might not attend the 2018 Delhi Auto Show. Basically, there are enough chances that all Indian subsidiaries of the Volkswagen group might give the upcoming Expo a skip. It may be noted both VW and Audi were present at the Auto Expo 2016. This time around, however, Volkswagen group is trying to recover from the losses it suffered due to the ‘Dieselgate’ fiasco. Hence, it’s trying to cut operation costs wherever possible and there are enough chances that the next Auto Expo might not be appealing enough for the German car giant. At the last expo, Audi displayed an interesting car concept and a slew of new models at the show.
